Where Roads and Wetlands Meet

The Rutland Regional Planning Commission helped the Town of Chittenden secure an ANR Ecosystem Restoration Grant to restore a wetland which now straddles the town’s Wildcat Road. The road acts as a barrier between sections of the wetland and, consequently, impacts its hydrological connection, floodwater and stormwater storage, and fish and wildlife populations.

The ERP grant will be used to perform a preliminary natural resource assessment and for engineering design ideas, including potentially relocating the road.

The primary landowner in this impacted area, the United State Forest Service, will partner with the town on this ERP project and assist with data and field reviews.
